Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, ensuring a profit margin, while this market allows traders to directly assess the probabilities. If a large number of people believe a particular outcome is likely, the odds will shift accordingly, potentially diverging from sportsbook offerings. It's common to see prediction markets outperform sportsbooks in accuracy, as they harness the wisdom of the crowd, though discrepancies can arise due to differing information or risk appetites.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more shares are purchased for a particular player, the price of those shares increases, and the implied probability rises. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price reflects the collective intelligence of all participants, creating a dynamic and evolving forecast for the Pacheco vs Dellien match.
