Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of forecasters, potentially differing from those set by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish lines based on statistical models and their own risk assessments, while this market relies on individuals directly expressing their beliefs through trades. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially when public opinion diverges from expert analysis. Examining these differences can offer insights into the perceived value and potential biases within each system when considering the outcome of the match.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of each share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a specific outcome, its price increases, reflecting growing confidence. Conversely, selling pressure lowers the price, indicating decreasing confidence. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the aggregated views of all participants.
