Sportsbooks set their lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. It’s common to see discrepancies between the two, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. These differences can arise from varying levels of information access, differing risk assessments, or simply the influence of public sentiment. Examining these differences can be insightful for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price will fluctuate, reflecting the evolving consensus. The market is entirely driven by supply and demand; if more people believe Serna/Zeitune will win, the price of shares representing that outcome will increase, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market remains responsive to changing conditions.
