Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by a small team of experts, while this market aggregates insights from many individuals. While both aim to predict the outcome, differences can arise due to varying information, biases, or analytical approaches. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially as new information emerges or public sentiment shifts. Comparing the two can be a useful exercise in evaluating the probabilities associated with the game.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to represent the collective assessment of the event. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket; external factors or other venues do not influence pricing here. The current volume traded indicates the level of interest and conviction among traders.
