Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds due to varying information sources and incentives. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own analysis and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. If there's a significant discrepancy, it could indicate that the crowd believes there's an edge not yet priced in by sportsbooks, or vice versa. It’s common to see prediction markets move faster to incorporate new information than traditional betting venues.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts, providing a dynamic assessment of the event’s potential results. This creates a market-driven forecast, where the collective intelligence of participants determines the odds.
