Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by analysts, while this market is driven by the collective predictions of traders. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the dynamics of each venue. It's common to see this market adjust rapidly to new information, potentially leading to odds that diverge from, or converge with, those found at sportsbooks. Analyzing these differences can be insightful for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts accordingly, creating a dynamic and responsive market.
