Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance action, while this market allows traders to freely adjust probabilities based on their own research and information. If there's a significant discrepancy, it might indicate that the market believes a sportsbook has mispriced a particular outcome. However, it’s important to remember that both represent probabilities of the same event happening, and differences can arise due to varying levels of information and analytical approaches.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of specific exact scores. The price of a share directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment of the event's potential results. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated based on the latest information and sentiment. The market's efficiency relies on active participation and informed trading.
