Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often differing from initial sportsbook offerings. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and need to account for profit margins, whereas this market is driven by traders directly incentivized to predict correctly. If sportsbook odds initially favor one team significantly, but traders in this market believe the match is closer, the odds here will adjust accordingly. It’s common to see prediction markets converge towards the true probability as more information becomes available, potentially offering a more accurate assessment than traditional betting venues.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the price fluctuates, providing a dynamic assessment of the match’s potential result. The current price indicates the market’s collective expectation for the Roanne doubles match, and traders are constantly updating their positions based on their analysis.
