Sportsbooks set initial lines based on their own analysis, incorporating factors like team statistics and expert opinions, but may be influenced by biases or the need to balance action on both sides. This market, however, allows anyone to trade and express their belief about the outcome, potentially leading to odds that more accurately reflect the true probability of either team winning the first half. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information access or risk assessment among participants.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous double auction, meaning traders buy and sell contracts representing each possible outcome – Richmond winning the first half or Villanova winning the first half. The price of each contract reflects the market’s collective assessment of that outcome’s probability. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust to reflect changing expectations. The closer we get to the event, the more the prices will likely converge, indicating greater confidence in one outcome over the other. Currently, the most actively traded outcome is Villanova winning the first half.
