Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often aligning closely with sportsbook odds but sometimes diverging based on unique information or perspectives held by traders. Sportsbooks set their lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market allows anyone to participate and express their beliefs. Discrepancies can arise due to differing risk assessments or the influence of public sentiment. It's common to see prediction markets react quickly to news and events, potentially leading to faster adjustments than traditional sportsbooks. Comparing the two can offer a broader view of the likely outcome.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing different point spreads in the Rice vs Florida Atlantic game. The price of each contract reflects the probability of that spread occurring, as perceived by the market participants. As more traders buy contracts for a particular spread, the price increases, and vice versa. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market depth indicates the volume of contracts available at each price level, providing insight into the potential liquidity and price stability. Traders are essentially betting on their prediction of the final point difference.
