Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and ensure profit, while this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders. This can lead to discrepancies, especially when there's strong public sentiment or inside information not yet reflected in sportsbook lines. It’s common to see this market assign higher probabilities to outcomes that are perceived as undervalued by sportsbooks, or vice versa, depending on the flow of information and trader conviction. Comparing the two can offer a more comprehensive view of potential outcomes.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as determined by supply and demand. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, indicating a higher perceived probability. Conversely, selling pressure drives the price down. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective intelligence of all participants trading on Polymarket.
