Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, but may also incorporate a profit margin. This market, however, is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities, especially as new information emerges. Discrepancies can arise due to differing levels of information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of the same data. It's common to see prediction markets react more quickly to breaking news than sportsbooks.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in whether Real Oviedo or UD Las Palmas will score first. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome, as perceived by the market participants. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adjust to reflect the latest information and collective intelligence of the traders.
