Prediction market odds, like those found on Polymarket and Predict, often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set odds based on models and expert analysis, while this market is driven by real money at risk. This can lead to differences, especially when public sentiment diverges from expert opinion. While sportsbooks may initially set odds based on team statistics, this market can quickly adjust to incorporate new information or unexpected developments. Comparing the two can provide a more nuanced understanding of the likely outcome.
Polymarket and Predict can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Prices on Polymarket and Predict may differ due to variations in user base, trading volume, and risk appetite. Polymarket might attract more sophisticated traders with access to detailed statistical models, leading to more efficient price discovery. Conversely, Predict could have a broader user base with varying levels of expertise, resulting in prices more influenced by public sentiment. Furthermore, differing fee structures or platform-specific rules can also contribute to price discrepancies. The volume of $0 traded across both platforms indicates active participation, but doesn't guarantee price convergence.
