Prices on Polymarket and Kalshi can diverge due to a number of factors. Each platform has its own user base, trading dynamics, and fee structure, all of which can influence price discovery. Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Furthermore, differing liquidity and trading volume between the platforms can create temporary imbalances. The way each platform handles margin requirements and risk management can also contribute to price discrepancies. It’s common to see variations even when tracking the same underlying event, as traders on each platform interpret information and express their beliefs independently.
Several factors could significantly impact this market. Any news regarding key player injuries for either Purdue or Penn State would likely cause a shift in probabilities. Unexpected changes in weather conditions, particularly if they favor one team's playing style, could also move the market. Major coaching decisions or strategic announcements could also influence trader sentiment. Finally, significant betting activity on Polymarket or Kalshi itself can create momentum and drive price changes, as traders react to each other's actions.
