Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert opinions, while this market incorporates a broader range of information and real-time adjustments from many traders. It's common to see discrepancies, especially as new information emerges, such as player injuries or changes in team dynamics. These differences can present opportunities for arbitrage, where traders capitalize on price inefficiencies between the two types of markets.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in a particular player leading the league in passing yards. As more shares are purchased for a specific player, the price of those shares increases, reflecting growing confidence. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share represents the probability of that player winning, as perceived by the market participants. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adapt to new information and changing sentiment.
