This event group tracks whether the U.S. Producer Price Index (PPI) for final demand will exceed various thresholds in July 2026, measured year-over-year. Both platforms reference the same official BLS data source but structure their markets differently: Kalshi uses binary Yes/No outcomes at each threshold, while Polymarket uses specific percentage-point questions.
This is a market about the Producer Price Index (PPI) for final demand over the 12-month period ending July 2026, before seasonal adjustment, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. This market will resolve to the percentage change in the Producer Price Index (PPI) for final demand over the 12-month period ending in July 2026, before seasonal adjustment, according to the monthly Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) report. The resolution source for this market will be the BLS Producer Price Index report released for July 2026 (https://www.bls.gov/ppi/), currently scheduled to be released on August 13, 2026, at 8:30 AM ET. Resolution of this market will take place upon release of the aforementioned data. Note: the resolution source for this market will be the official monthly BLS PPI news release, which reports PPI over 12-month periods to only one decimal point (e.g., 6.0%). Thus, this is the level of precision that will be used when resolving the market. This market resolves on the total PPI for final demand figure, not the core PPI figure excluding food and energy. If the BLS does not release the relevant figures on the scheduled date, this market may remain open up until the scheduled release time of the next PPI report (https://www.bls.gov/schedule). If the information is not released by that time, this market will resolve according to the figures of the most recent previous month with available data.
This event consists of multiple markets, each corresponding to a specific threshold for the year-over-year percent change in the United States Producer Price Index for final demand in July 2026. Each market resolves to Yes if the reported PPI year-over-year change exceeds its designated threshold, ranging from 5.0% to 6.3% in 0.1 percentage point increments. The resolution is based on the official PPI data released by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics for July 2026. Each threshold represents a distinct market outcome, allowing participants to express granular predictions about the magnitude of producer price inflation during this period. Markets are independent; the actual PPI reading will determine which thresholds are exceeded and thus which markets resolve affirmatively.
Prediction markets aggregate dispersed information from traders with real money at stake, often revealing expectations that differ from consensus economist surveys. While traditional forecasters publish point estimates based on models and historical data, this market reflects live trading sentiment and incorporates breaking economic data in real time. Comparing the odds here to Wall Street consensus can highlight where traders see upside or downside risk relative to the median forecast, making it a useful cross-check for understanding where inflation expectations may be shifting.
Polymarket and Kalshi can show different implied probabilities for the same outcome because of liquidity, fee structure, participant mix, and how each venue defines the contract. Each venue attracts different trader demographics, liquidity pools, and fee structures, which can create temporary price gaps even on the same underlying event. Polymarket and Kalshi may also frame their outcome slightly differently—for example, one might ask about a specific threshold while the other targets a precise percentage—leading to divergent odds. Arbitrage traders typically exploit these spreads, but differences can persist if one platform has deeper liquidity or if traders on each venue hold genuinely different views on the probability.
This market resolves around Aug 20, 2026, once the July 2026 PPI data is released and verified against credible public sources. The outcome is determined by the actual year-over-year percentage change in the Producer Price Index for final demand, as reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Traders holding positions will see their contracts settle based on whether the realized figure matches or exceeds the threshold embedded in their chosen outcome.
Major catalysts include monthly inflation reports, Federal Reserve policy announcements, energy and commodity price swings, and supply-chain developments that affect producer costs. Geopolitical events, labor market data, and import tariff changes can all shift expectations for producer-level inflation. Additionally, revisions to prior months' PPI figures or shifts in market-implied rate expectations can prompt traders to reassess their positions, creating volatility in this market as new information arrives.
