Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds often differ from those found at traditional sportsbooks, reflecting the 'wisdom of the crowd' versus the assessments of professional oddsmakers. Sportsbooks may incorporate factors like public perception or promotional incentives into their lines, whereas this market is driven purely by individuals wagering their own capital. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially early in the market’s life, as prediction markets can quickly incorporate new information and adjust probabilities based on trader activity. Examining these differences can reveal insights into public versus informed opinion.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, the price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective assessment of the event's likelihood. The current volume indicates the level of interest and conviction surrounding each possible result.

Several factors could influence trading activity and shift the odds in this market. Any news regarding player form, potential injuries to either Kate Fahey or Catherine Parenteau, or changes in their recent performance could all have a significant impact. Unexpected announcements about playing conditions or tournament rules might also cause movement. Furthermore, large trades by influential market participants could trigger shifts in price, as others react to their actions and reassess their own predictions.
