Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often incorporating information and analysis beyond what is readily available to sportsbooks. This can lead to differences in implied probabilities, as this market may react more quickly to new information or nuanced factors affecting the game. Sportsbooks set initial lines based on their own models and may adjust them based on betting action, but they often have limitations in processing diverse data points. It's common to see discrepancies between the two, with prediction markets sometimes offering more accurate forecasts, especially closer to the event.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in each outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate and express their views, the prices adjust, creating a dynamic representation of collective expectations. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and isn't influenced by external factors or predetermined values. The current price reflects the aggregated judgment of all traders on the platform.
