Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market incorporates a broader range of information and opinions. It's common to see discrepancies between the two, especially before significant events or when new information emerges. These differences can present opportunities for arbitrage, where traders attempt to profit from the mispricing between the two types of markets. However, it’s important to remember that both sources have their own strengths and weaknesses.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price will fluctuate, reflecting the evolving consensus. The market is entirely driven by supply and demand; if more people believe William O'Connor will win, the price of shares representing his victory will increase, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures the market remains responsive to changing conditions.
