Frequently asked questions

Comparing prediction market odds to sportsbook odds reveals how the wisdom of the crowd differs from professional oddsmakers. Often, prediction markets can offer more accurate probabilities, especially when there’s significant public interest and information available. While sportsbooks set initial lines based on their analysis, this market allows odds to adjust dynamically based on a wider range of factors and participant insights. Discrepancies can arise from differing opinions on player form, potential upsets, or even external influences not fully considered by traditional oddsmakers.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the price fluctuates, providing a real-time assessment of the likelihood of each possible result. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of those involved.
