Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of bettors, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by a small team of experts, while this market aggregates the views of many individuals. Historically, prediction markets have demonstrated an ability to be surprisingly accurate, sometimes even outperforming traditional forecasts. However, it’s important to note that sportsbooks have different risk management strategies and may adjust their odds based on factors beyond pure prediction, such as balancing liabilities and attracting action.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a hole-in-one. The price of these shares fluctuates based on supply and demand. As more people believe a hole-in-one is likely, the price of shares increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing reflects the evolving expectations of the crowd, creating a real-time assessment of the event's probability. The current implied probability, based on share prices, is a key indicator for those following the market.

This market resolves around Oct 4, 2026, once the Bank of Utah Championship concludes and the official results are available. The outcome will be determined by whether a hole-in-one is officially recorded during the tournament. Verification will be based on credible public reporting from official tournament sources. The resolution will reflect a simple yes/no outcome: did a hole-in-one occur, or did it not? The market will then settle based on this verified result, distributing payouts to those who correctly predicted the outcome.

Several factors could influence this market before the tournament ends. A particularly skilled golfer known for their accuracy having a strong showing in the early rounds could increase the perceived probability of a hole-in-one. Conversely, challenging weather conditions, such as strong winds or difficult pin placements, might decrease the likelihood. Any news regarding a golfer's form or a change in course conditions could also impact trading activity and shift the odds. Ultimately, any information that alters traders’ assessment of the probability will likely move this market.
