Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, while Polymarket allows traders to directly assess probabilities. This can lead to discrepancies, especially when public sentiment strongly diverges from expert analysis. It’s common to see this market offer odds that are more aligned with informed opinions, as traders can freely exchange positions and adjust prices based on new information. Comparing these odds to sportsbook lines can reveal where the 'wisdom of the crowd' differs from professional oddsmakers.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares, the price increases, reflecting a higher perceived chance of success. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current price reflects the collective intelligence of the traders on Polymarket, and is constantly updated based on supply and demand for shares in this market.
This market resolves around Nov 4, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution will be based on the official result of the NBL championship series, determining which team is crowned the champion. The market will then settle to 100% for the winning team and 0% for all others. Traders holding shares in the winning outcome will receive a payout equivalent to their shareholding, while those holding shares in losing outcomes will forfeit their investment.
Several factors could significantly impact this market. Key player injuries or unexpected changes in team performance are major catalysts. News regarding coaching decisions, trades, or even team morale could also shift probabilities. Major upsets in regular season games, or the performance of teams in the lead-up to the playoffs, will likely cause price adjustments. Any significant information that alters perceptions of a team’s championship potential will be reflected in the trading activity and, consequently, the odds within this market.
