Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance betting action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market allows traders to directly express their beliefs about the likelihood of each outcome. If a significant discrepancy exists between this market and sportsbook odds, it may indicate that prediction market participants have access to, or place greater weight on, different information than sportsbooks. It's also possible that differing market structures lead to price variations.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing each possible exact score. The price of each share directly reflects the implied probability of that score occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, indicating a higher perceived probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price is entirely driven by supply and demand, with traders adjusting their positions based on their own analysis and information. This creates a dynamic and responsive pricing system.
