Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and need to account for profit margins, while this market is driven purely by traders’ beliefs. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook is undervaluing a particular outcome, the prediction market odds will adjust accordingly. It's common to see discrepancies, especially as new information emerges or public sentiment shifts leading up to the event. Analyzing these differences can reveal insights into market expectations.
On Predict, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell contracts representing different outcomes. The price of each contract reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices will fluctuate, providing a dynamic assessment of the game’s likely result. The current price represents the collective forecast of everyone trading in this market for the Penguins-Avalanche game.
