Generally, prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by professional oddsmakers, while this market's odds are determined by the collective predictions of individual traders. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially before significant events or when public sentiment strongly favors a particular outcome. Analyzing these differences can be valuable, as prediction markets sometimes anticipate outcomes more accurately than traditional methods, though past performance is not indicative of future results.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where participants buy and sell shares representing different possible exact first-half scores. The price of each share reflects the market’s probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds constantly adjust to incorporate new information and changing perceptions about the likelihood of each result, providing a real-time assessment of expectations for the match.
