Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines to balance betting action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market allows traders to directly express their beliefs about the probability of each exact score. If a significant discrepancy exists, arbitrage opportunities may arise, where traders can profit by betting on both the prediction market and a sportsbook. However, it's important to note that sportsbooks and this market each have their own unique information and biases.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing different exact scores. The price of each share reflects the market's collective belief about the probability of that score occurring. As more traders participate, the prices adjust to reflect new information and sentiment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market price is determined solely by supply and demand within Polymarket, and is not influenced by external factors or other prediction markets.
