Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert opinions, while this market allows anyone to trade on their beliefs, potentially leading to more accurate probabilities as new information emerges. Discrepancies can arise due to differing levels of information, biases, or simply variations in how each assesses the likelihood of a particular outcome. It’s common to see this market adjust rapidly to news and developments that might not be immediately reflected in sportsbook lines.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each player winning. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to find an equilibrium that represents the collective prediction.
