Often, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, potentially differing from those set by sportsbooks. Sportsbooks establish initial lines to balance betting action, while this market allows traders to express their independent beliefs about the outcome. If a significant number of informed bettors believe a sportsbook’s odds are inaccurate, we may see the prediction market odds diverge. However, it's important to remember that both represent probabilities, and discrepancies can arise due to differing information or analytical approaches. This market provides a unique perspective compared to traditional betting venues.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome of the Liang vs Valentova match. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of each player winning. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment. The more shares purchased for a particular outcome, the higher its price, and the greater the implied probability. This dynamic pricing ensures the market remains responsive to evolving expectations.
