Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and ensure profit, incorporating a margin for themselves. This market, however, is driven purely by the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately predict the outcome. As a result, you may find that the implied probabilities in this market differ from sportsbook odds, potentially offering value to informed bettors. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information or interpretations of the players' form and potential.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, reflecting growing confidence. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's price dynamically adjusts based on supply and demand, creating a real-time assessment of the potential result of the Kasatkina vs Gibson match.
