Often, prediction market odds reflect a different perspective than those found at traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and ensure profit, while this market relies on the collective wisdom of traders. This can lead to discrepancies, particularly when public sentiment strongly diverges from expert analysis. If a large number of people believe an outcome is likely, the price will move in that direction, even if sportsbooks assess the probability differently. It’s common to see prediction markets offer more nuanced probabilities than simple win/loss odds found elsewhere.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly reflects the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders who believe an outcome is likely, the higher the price of its shares will climb, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective intelligence regarding the Palermo tennis match.
