Typically, prediction market odds reflect a different kind of wisdom than those found at sportsbooks. Sportsbooks often incorporate a 'vig' or commission into their odds, and may adjust lines to balance betting action. This market, however, represents the aggregated predictions of individuals willing to put their money behind their beliefs. While sportsbooks may initially offer odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, prediction markets can often incorporate new information and react more quickly to unexpected developments, potentially offering a more accurate forecast. It’s common to see differences in probabilities compared to traditional betting sites.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current implied probability of a particular outcome is determined by the ratio of share prices between the different possible results of the Siniakov vs Rapagnetta match. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the collective intelligence of the participants.
