Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of forecasters, potentially differing from those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market is driven purely by individuals’ willingness to buy or sell based on their beliefs about the outcome. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially when public opinion diverges from expert analysis, or when new information emerges that hasn’t yet been fully incorporated into sportsbook lines. Examining these differences can provide valuable insights.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a particular outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to reflect the collective assessment. Higher demand for shares in a specific outcome drives up its price, indicating increased confidence, while selling pressure lowers the price. This dynamic pricing ensures the market reflects the most up-to-date information available.
