Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds due to varying information sources and incentives. Sportsbooks typically set lines to balance their risk and ensure profitability, while this market allows anyone to express their belief about the outcome. If there's a significant discrepancy, it could indicate that the crowd believes the sportsbook has mispriced the event, or that new information hasn’t fully been incorporated into sportsbook lines. It's worth comparing to see if there's an edge to be found.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe an outcome is likely, the higher the share price will climb, and vice versa. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of those trading on the event.
