Often, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective that differs from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and ensure profit, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. This can lead to discrepancies, particularly as new information emerges. While sportsbooks may initially favor one team, the prediction market may adjust based on factors like injuries, team performance, or even subtle shifts in public sentiment. It’s common to see the market odds converge with sportsbook odds closer to the event date, but significant differences can exist.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more traders believe a particular outcome is likely, the higher the price of its shares will climb. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the collective intelligence of those trading on the platform, offering a unique perspective on the potential result of the championship.

Unexpected changes in team coaching staff or significant performance fluctuations in recent games could also move the market. Major announcements regarding player availability, or even unforeseen circumstances impacting travel or game scheduling, could all influence trader sentiment and, consequently, the prices within this market. Monitoring news related to both teams is crucial for understanding potential catalysts.
