Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their odds based on statistical models and expert analysis, while this market is driven by real money being wagered on the likely outcome. It’s common to see differences, especially as new information emerges or public sentiment shifts. Discrepancies can arise due to varying levels of information access and differing interpretations of the same data, leading to potentially advantageous opportunities for informed traders.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of each outcome. As more shares are traded, the price adjusts to reflect the collective sentiment. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. For example, a share priced at 50 represents a 50% chance of that outcome being correct. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market odds are constantly updated based on the latest information and trader activity.

Furthermore, in-game events, such as early goals or red cards, could trigger rapid shifts in the market as traders react to the unfolding situation. Overall team performance in recent matches and any pre-game analysis from sports commentators could also contribute to price movements.
