Prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially differing from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and aim to balance action on both sides, while this market represents the aggregated beliefs of informed traders. Often, prediction markets can provide more accurate probabilities, especially when significant information isn't widely available to the public. However, sportsbook odds can be influenced by factors like public betting patterns and promotional offers, creating discrepancies with the probabilities seen in this market.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now.
