Often, prediction market odds offer a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set lines to balance action and incorporate a profit margin, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of bettors who are incentivized to be accurate. You may find that the implied probabilities from this market diverge from those offered by sportsbooks, particularly as new information emerges or public sentiment shifts. Discrepancies can arise due to differing opinions on team strengths, injuries, or other game-day factors. It's valuable to compare both to gain a comprehensive view.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where participants buy and sell shares representing their beliefs about the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and vice-versa. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. This dynamic pricing reflects the aggregated predictions of all traders on the platform, creating a real-time assessment of the game's potential results. The market's efficiency depends on active participation and the flow of new information.
