Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and to balance action, while this market is driven by individuals willing to put their capital behind their beliefs. If a significant number of people believe an outcome is more likely than a sportsbook suggests, the prediction market odds will shift accordingly. It’s common to see discrepancies, particularly as new information emerges or public sentiment changes leading up to the event.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The more shares purchased for a particular outcome, the higher its price rises, indicating increased confidence. This dynamic pricing reflects the collective intelligence of those trading in this market, creating a real-time assessment of the game’s potential results.
