These markets focus on predicting the margin of victory for either Ohio State or USC specifically within the fourth quarter of their scheduled college football game. Only points scored during this final quarter determine the outcome, excluding any overtime periods.
All markets resolve based solely on points scored during the fourth quarter of play, excluding overtime. If Ohio State wins, markets specifying Ohio State winning by more than a certain point margin resolve to Yes if the margin meets or exceeds that threshold. Conversely, if USC wins, markets specifying USC winning by more than a certain point margin resolve to Yes if the margin meets or exceeds that threshold. For any game postponement, if the game commences within 48 hours of its original scheduled start time, markets remain open and resolve based on the official result. If the game does not start within this 48-hour window, all markets resolve to a fair price.
Generally, prediction markets and sportsbooks often arrive at similar probabilities, but they do so through different mechanisms. Sportsbooks set odds based on their internal models and aim to balance action on both sides of a bet, while this market reflects the collective wisdom of traders who are incentivized to accurately forecast the outcome. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply the unique dynamics of each venue. It’s common to see prediction markets incorporate information more quickly than traditional sportsbooks, especially as new information becomes available.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book, where traders buy and sell contracts representing different point spreads for the fourth quarter of the game. The price of each contract reflects the market’s assessment of the probability of that spread occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the latest information and sentiment. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current top market on Kalshi is for Ohio St. winning the 4th quarter by over 7.5 points, though probabilities are subject to change based on trading activity.
This market resolves around Nov 1, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the final point spread of the fourth quarter is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on the official result of the game as reported by a trusted sports data provider. The final point spread will be calculated by subtracting the final score of USC from the final score of Ohio State. The outcome will be determined by which spread, as represented by the contracts traded on Kalshi, matches the actual result.
Several factors could influence the price of contracts in this market. Injury reports for key players on either Ohio State or USC would likely have a significant impact. Unexpected changes in weather conditions could also shift the market, as could any late-breaking news regarding team strategy or player availability. In-game performance during the first three quarters could also drive movement, as traders react to how the game is unfolding and adjust their expectations for the fourth quarter’s spread. Any significant public sentiment shift could also affect volume and pricing.
