Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often proving more accurate than traditional sportsbook odds, especially as the event approaches. Sportsbooks may incorporate biases or seek to profit from public perception, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many informed traders. However, initial sportsbook lines often influence early trading in this market. Discrepancies can arise due to differing risk assessments and the incentives of each type of participant, but as more volume is traded, the odds here often converge towards a more accurate probability.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing the probability of each outcome. The price of a contract directly reflects the market's assessment of that outcome's likelihood. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to find an equilibrium point where buyers and sellers agree. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market's depth and trading volume indicate the level of confidence in each possible result, offering a dynamic view of expectations as new information becomes available.
