This set of markets tracks the margin of victory in an upcoming college basketball game, allowing participants to speculate on how decisively either team might win. Each market corresponds to a specific point differential threshold that determines the outcome.
All markets resolve based on the official point differential from the Ohio St. vs BYU men's college basketball game scheduled for Nov 2, 2026. If BYU wins by a margin exceeding the specified threshold—from 1.5 to 26.5 points—the corresponding 'BYU wins by over X points' market resolves to Yes; otherwise, it resolves to No. Conversely, if Ohio St. wins by more than the designated margin—ranging from 1.5 to 25.5 points—the relevant 'Ohio St. wins by over X points' market resolves to Yes, otherwise No. Should the game be postponed but commence within 48 hours of its original start time, all markets remain active and resolve according to the final official result. If the game is cancelled or fails to start within this window, all markets resolve to a fair price, ensuring equitable treatment for all participants.
Generally, prediction market odds tend to reflect the wisdom of the crowd, often aligning closely with sportsbook odds but sometimes diverging based on information not yet fully priced into traditional markets. Sportsbooks set their lines based on analysis and modeling, while this market allows individuals to trade on their own predictions. If a significant number of traders believe a sportsbook’s line is inaccurate, they can take a position in this market, potentially driving the price away from the sportsbook’s initial offering. It’s common to see differences, especially as new information emerges.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing different point spreads for the Ohio State vs BYU game. The price of a contract reflects the probability of that spread occurring, as perceived by the market participants. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. Traders are incentivized to provide accurate predictions, as profitable traders are rewarded and those with inaccurate views risk losing money. This dynamic creates a market-driven assessment of the likely outcome, distinct from static odds offered elsewhere.
This market resolves around Nov 3, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the final point spread of the Ohio State vs BYU game is verifiable from credible public reporting. The resolution will be based on the official result reported by a trusted sports data source. The final point spread will be compared to the contracts traded on Kalshi to determine which contracts will pay out and at what value. Traders holding winning contracts will receive a payout based on the contract’s value at resolution.
Several factors could influence the price of contracts in this market. News regarding injuries to key players on either the Ohio State or BYU teams would likely have a significant impact. Changes in weather forecasts, particularly if severe weather is expected during the game, could also shift the market. Public sentiment, as reflected in polls or expert analysis, can also play a role, though the market often incorporates this information quickly. Any unexpected developments leading up to the game, such as coaching changes or significant team news, could cause movement in this market.
