Frequently asked questions

Prediction market odds often reflect the collective wisdom of a diverse group of traders, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbook odds are typically set by a small number of experts, while this market aggregates insights from many individuals. It’s common to see differences emerge, particularly when there is significant uncertainty or disagreement about the likely outcome. These discrepancies can stem from differing information sources, analytical approaches, or simply varying levels of confidence in a particular result. Examining these differences can be valuable for informed decision-making.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in whether a particular team will score first in the first half. As more shares are bought for one outcome, its price increases, reflecting a higher implied probability. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The price of each share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring, as perceived by the market participants. This dynamic pricing ensures that the market reflects the most up-to-date collective assessment of the event's likelihood.
