Typically, prediction market odds reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from traditional sportsbook odds. Sportsbooks often set initial lines based on statistical models and expert analysis, but may also incorporate a profit margin. This market, driven by individual traders on Kalshi, tends to aggregate diverse perspectives and can sometimes offer more accurate probabilities, especially as the event approaches and more information surfaces. However, sportsbook odds are widely accessible and provide a useful point of comparison for assessing the potential value in this market.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing different outcomes. The price of each contract reflects the market’s collective belief about the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the prices adjust to reflect new information and changing sentiment. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The platform uses a decentralized mechanism, meaning prices are determined solely by supply and demand from traders, rather than a centralized bookmaker setting odds. This dynamic pricing allows for a potentially more efficient and accurate assessment of the event’s likelihood.
