Sportsbooks set lines based on their own models and need to account for a profit margin, while this market is driven by traders who are incentivized to accurately predict the outcome. If sportsbook odds heavily favor one team, but volume in this market is more evenly split, it could suggest that prediction market participants believe the game is closer than the sportsbook implies. Examining these differences can provide valuable insights into public perception and potential value.
