Sportsbooks set initial lines to balance action on both sides, incorporating a profit margin, while this market’s price is determined by traders directly expressing their beliefs about the outcome. If a significant number of traders believe one team is more likely to win the first half than implied by sportsbook odds, the price will move accordingly. Discrepancies can arise due to differing information, biases, or simply varying interpretations of team strengths. It’s common to see this market adjust rapidly as new information becomes available.
On Kalshi, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism. Traders buy and sell contracts representing their belief about whether North Carolina A&T or Hampton will win the first half. The price of a contract ranges from 0 to 100, representing the probability of that outcome. On Kalshi, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders buy contracts for a particular team, the price increases, indicating a growing expectation of their victory. Conversely, selling contracts drives the price down. The current price reflects the collective assessment of all participants trading in this market.
