Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd effect, potentially offering a different perspective than traditional sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set odds based on their own models and to balance action, while this market is driven purely by traders' willingness to buy or sell. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially when public perception differs from the sportsbook’s initial assessment. Comparing the two can be a useful exercise for informed decision-making, but remember that each represents a distinct form of forecasting.
On Predict, this market is priced through a continuous order book where traders buy and sell contracts representing different outcomes. The price of each contract reflects the collective belief of the traders regarding the probability of that outcome occurring. On Predict, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information becomes available, the prices adjust dynamically, providing a real-time assessment of expectations. The market’s depth and volume indicate the level of confidence and agreement among participants.
