Frequently asked questions

Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd perspective, often differing from initial sportsbook lines. Sportsbooks set odds to balance their book and incorporate a profit margin, while this market is driven purely by traders’ beliefs about the probability of each outcome. Over time, prediction market prices tend to be more accurate forecasts than traditional odds, especially as more information becomes available and trading volume increases. However, sportsbook odds can initially offer value if they diverge significantly from the prediction market price, providing an arbitrage opportunity for informed bettors.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the probability of a specific outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and new information emerges, the price adjusts to reflect the collective wisdom of the crowd. Higher volume generally indicates greater confidence in the market's price, while low volume may suggest uncertainty or a lack of strong conviction.

This market resolves around Oct 4, 2026, with the outcome confirmed once the event is verifiable from credible public reporting. Resolution will be based on the official result of the second half of the NJ/NY Gotham FC versus Angel City FC match. The final score of the second half, as reported by official sources, will determine which outcome resolves as 'yes' and which resolves as 'no'. Traders holding shares in the winning outcome will be paid out according to the final market price at resolution.

Several factors could influence the price of this market before resolution. Any news regarding player injuries, suspensions, or tactical changes for either Gotham FC or Angel City FC could significantly shift trader sentiment. In-game events during the first half, such as early goals or red cards, will likely cause rapid price adjustments. Unexpected weather conditions or referee decisions could also play a role. Overall match momentum and public perception, as reflected in social media and sports news, can contribute to price movements in this market.
