Frequently asked questions

Generally, prediction market odds often reflect a more accurate assessment of probabilities than traditional sportsbook odds. This is because prediction markets incentivize participants to reveal their true beliefs, while sportsbooks may factor in profit margins or biases. However, discrepancies can occur due to differing levels of information available to each group, or variations in how each assesses the event. It’s common to see this market and sportsbook odds converge closer to the event date as more information is incorporated into both.

On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders participate, the price adjusts to reflect the collective wisdom of the crowd. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The current implied probability of a particular outcome is determined by the share price relative to $1, with higher prices indicating a greater perceived chance of success.
