Typically, prediction market odds reflect a wisdom-of-the-crowd approach, often incorporating information and analysis not immediately captured by traditional sportsbooks. This can lead to differences in probabilities assigned to each player. Sportsbooks may initially set odds based on player rankings and historical performance, while this market can adjust rapidly based on new information, such as injury reports or changes in playing conditions. It’s common to see discrepancies, especially as the event draws nearer and more data becomes available, offering potentially valuable insights for informed decision-making.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous trading mechanism where users buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of a particular outcome. The price of these shares directly reflects the implied probability of that outcome occurring. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. As more traders participate and express their views, the price adjusts to represent the collective prediction. Higher demand for shares in a specific outcome will drive its price up, indicating a greater perceived chance of success, while lower demand will decrease the price. This dynamic process ensures the market price remains responsive to new information and shifts in sentiment.
