Prediction market odds often reflect the wisdom of the crowd and can differ from those offered by traditional sportsbooks. Sportsbooks set their lines based on their own models and risk management, while this market aggregates the beliefs of many individual traders. If a significant number of people believe an outcome is more likely than a sportsbook suggests, the price in this market will adjust accordingly. This can create opportunities for arbitrage, where traders can profit from the difference in odds between the two venues. However, it's important to remember that prediction market odds are also subject to change based on new information and sentiment.
On Polymarket, this market is priced through a continuous auction mechanism, where traders buy and sell shares representing their belief in the likelihood of each outcome. The price of a share directly corresponds to the implied probability of that outcome occurring. As more traders buy shares in a particular outcome, its price increases, and the implied probability rises. On Polymarket, prices reflect that venue's order book, liquidity, and how traders price the outcome right now. The market’s price reflects the collective intelligence of all participants and adjusts dynamically to new information and changing sentiment regarding the Jie Cui vs Petr Bar Biryukov match. This creates a fluid and responsive pricing system.
